What is it?

As the home automation market grew, compatibility issues began to arise between products from different brands. This is why KNX emerged. KNX is a protocol that allows different devices to connect to each other and work together, correctly performing their assigned functions.

KNX

Benefits

  • The main advantage is having a broad market where you can confidently choose any product from any company, as they can work together.

  • The huge expansion of KNX means there are more and more people specializing in it, which allows us to have different budgets and opinions .

  • Maintenance is one of its strong points, as we can easily replace elements of the installation throughout its lifespan. Even if a device breaks down completely, we can replace it with a similar one, even if it's from a different brand.

  • It provides security , since through KNX you can control everything that happens in your home, from monitoring the garden to knowing the status of the pipes.

  • It offers great convenience to the facility owner thanks to the independence of the devices and the ability to control everything from a single location.

KNX Products

Facility

Installing KNX requires a certain level of knowledge. Therefore, it's best to seek advice from someone who knows how to do it. For this, we can rely on KNX partners , which can be suppliers or installers endorsed by the KNX system association.

KNX Room

To learn more about how a KNX system works, let's look at an example of the devices installed in a house in Muros de Nalón, Asturias.
Because customers wanted to control practically everything with home automation, a multitude of devices were installed:

  • Lighting control.

  • Installation of presence and light detectors in hallways and passageways so that the light is activated only by movement.

  • Blinds control.

  • Heating control. With several independent heating zones, each with its own temperature and time settings.

  • Ventilation control. This will be based on the amount of CO2 present. This CO2 data will be provided by four air quality sensors distributed throughout the house.

  • Weather station. To make adjustments to your home based on the weather outside, such as raising the blinds if it's windy.

  • Notices in case of power outage.

  • Install occupancy sensors throughout the house. In the event of a break-in, a notification will be sent to your mobile phone, and you'll also be able to identify which room the intruder is in.
